Trainee Buyer

£24,000 - £30000

This role would be suitable for someone that had 12 months plus experience within the Purchasing environment or an Assistant Buyer looking to gain training within a fantastic company


Key role responsibilities


  • Managing the day-to-day project procurement of materials from existing agreements


  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with external suppliers


  • Developing and managing negotiations of terms with suppliers


  • Effectively dealing with challenges with suppliers and the flow of materials


  • To monitor performance, quality, prices, and development of all suppliers


  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety and environment requirements of materials and services


  • Proactively preparing for quotations and proposals


  • Regularly attend team meetings and site visits to ensure the site team have the procurement support required and support them


  • Effectively communicating project requirements to the supply chain through a variety of communication channels


  • Preparing and maintaining cost reports to maximise efficiency within the company


  • Identifying potential suppliers and new products


  • Liaising closely with the Head Buyer at the tendering stage to ensure that an accurate project cost is provided


  • Assessing and advising on commercial risk


  • Liaising regularly with Site Agents and Surveyors to ensure all material deliveries are timely and accurate


  • Managing purchase orders and invoice issues, following them through with resolution


What we expect from you


  • Experience in groundworks or civil engineering in a buyer role


  • Experience in successfully sourcing materials for groundworks sites


  • Excellent knowledge of aggregates, asphaly, concrete and drainage purchasing


  • Demonstrates and role models a positive attitude and teamwork abilities, to motivate the ledger team


  • Accurate, organised and passionate with high attention to detail and pride shown in their role


  • Diligent with the ability to prioritise and display proactiveness in looking for alternative, more efficient solutions


  • Able to work collaboratively and flexibly when supporting others and has confidence in their approach to communication, across all levels


  • Is professional and works hard to get the job done, prepared to go the extra mile
